My Goals

Future Growth of TICA

Represent & Serve the Mid Atlantic Region

Dear Mid Atlantic Regional Member,

Soon you will be receiving your voting ballot to elect your new Mid Atlantic Regional Director. I’d like to take a few moments of your time to declare my candidacy and to present my thoughts, ideas, concerns and qualifications for this position.

I have been involved in the cat fancy for the past eleven years starting with showing and breeding Himalayans under the cattery name “Purberri”.  My love for the cat fancy quickly got me active in organizing new clubs, producing shows, entry clerking, ring clerking and up to my current status as an Approved Specialty judge in TICA.  I feel very honored and privileged to have met the most wonderful people and cats in the cat fancy and I have the utmost appreciation and respect for them all. It’s all about the TICA family!

We have a vibrant and strong region and I expect that we will continue to grow well into the future.  Our clubs and their members are active within TICA, breeding, exhibiting and producing shows.  But we are also enriched with members who actively participate in various other feline endeavors such as rescue operations, adoption activities and public education. The cat fancy is not just about showing and breeding.  With it comes a responsibility to promote spay/neuter, rescue, education and general feline welfare. Educating the public is essential not only for the advancement of the cat fancy, but to also help to reduce the threat of adopting local ordnances which may restrict or eliminate hobby breeders.

The past few years have seen a decline in registrations and membership not only in the Mid Atlantic Region but in the cat fancy as a whole.  Many factors such as family obligations, jobs and the economy are all playing a part in the decline of entries and the loss of exhibitors and memberships. There are many challenges facing TICA clubs and the association. Clubs are struggling to find affordable show halls and to reduce costs in order to continue to produce shows.  The board of directors is constantly being challenged to balance business goals and to retain and entice new memberships.  These are difficult tasks given the limited resources that are available to the association.

As a candidate for Mid Atlantic Regional Director, I bring 24 years of experience in government service, working in the Financial Management and Budgetary field.  This experience has enabled me to develop the skills necessary to make sound business decisions affecting the membership and association and the ability to understand and interpret the factors which would guide me in resolving difficult issues.

I have traveled extensively throughout my life and lived in numerous states within the U.S. and in Europe.  I have served in the U.S. Army. These experiences have helped me hone the interpersonal skills that are important to being an effective Regional Director.  I consider myself a pro-active listener and communicator.  I believe in integrity, teamwork, communication, planning, and respect.  These are not merely words, but ethics that guide me in all aspects of my life. These skills and abilities are crucial to the effectiveness of a successful Regional Director, not only within the boundaries of the Mid Atlantic Region but within the scopes of TICA and the cat fancy.

My primary concern is how TICA is currently doing business. It is vital that we analyze business practices within the association and focus on improvement.  We need to position ourselves to compete for growth, without sacrificing services.  Growth is the key to the success of TICA and we need to adapt to changing times.

If elected as your Mid Atlantic Regional Director, I promise to keep you informed by; 1) holding regular meetings at regional shows that I attend; and 2) providing a quarterly newsletter publication via email, snail mail and on our regional web site.  I will always be available 24/7 to listen to your concerns and ideas.  I will try to the best of my ability to keep cohesion and communication throughout the region.  Most importantly, I will represent your voice.  I look forward to the difficult challenges ahead.  Please honor me with your vote.
